About Nepal

Nepal is a land-locked country situated in the laps of the Himalayan Ranges. Inheriting vast diversity in geography and ethnicity it is locked by China from the north and India from east south and west. It is the fifth largest country amongst the membesr of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Nepal is one of the poorest nations in the world and has been facing major problems like a lack of internal financial resources, rapid population growth, illiteracy, poor health and sanitation facilities, shortage of clean and potable water.

Background of education in Nepal

The government in Nepal has only been active in the field of education for the past 50 years or so. Most of the educational opportunities were only centered in Kathmandu until recently. Education in Nepal takes place on the rote method where the teacher talks and the children listen. There are two types of schools i.e. private and government supported which have traditionally been determining the quality of education. Private schools are well facilitated but expensive hence out of reach of the majority of people in Nepal. Whereas the government supported schools run on outdated curricula, bare-minimum resources, have an inadequate number of teachers, lack infrastructure, and there is a complete absence of extra-curricular activities.
